The vast changes that have occurred in Japan since World War II continue to seem less significant to many than the memory of a militaristic period. The book describes the economics and politics of contemporary Japan from both a Japanese and Western perspective, explaining for a Western audience the real dynamics of a society that, while being an aggressively successful country, is in reality fully integrated with, and operating in tandem with, the West.
