Current knowledge on coral reef geomorphology is brought together in this book using an international perspective. The environment in which coral reefs live, the way they are built and how they have grown to their present form are all considered and different types of reef are described in detail. Various theories which have been put forward to explain the existence of reefs and atolls are also discussed, taking into account the results of deep drilling in Pacific coral structures. Finally, the damage caused by human activity and the means of reef protection and recovery are considered.
